What is ACDM doing to promote collaboration?

ACDM provides an e-mail forum to foster open discussion of Configuration Management/Data Management related topics. We host an annual conference to facilitate the communication of the latest thinking related to collaboration.

How did ACDM get started?

A small group of CM professionals got together in 1993 to set up the networking and connectivity support group that became called "ACDM". The initial organization was titled ACM and later changed to ACDM as the ACM acronym had been used by another organization.

Who's involved in setting standards?

ACDM does not "set standards"; ACDM facilitates the dissemination of standards set by EIA, ANSI, ISO, and other organizations. We have executive board members that actively participate in or are members of associations that set CM and DM related standards.

How does ACDM operate?

A nominated board of officers, all of whom are volunteers, is elected by the membership to make up an Executive Board that meets several times throughout the year. The EB consists of a President, VP of Education, VP of Services, Secretary, Treasurer, CM Committee Chair, DM Committee Chair and five Board of Governors. What new standards is ACDM working on?

Members are participating in conjunction with the GEIA in the development and review of several new standards that have originated to fill the void of the cancellation of many of the military standards in the second half of the 1990's. Revisions to EIA/ANSI-649, EIA-836, and EIA-859 are several of the current standards being worked at this time.

How broad is ACDM's membership base?

ACDM's membership consists of a very broad spectrum of the business community. ACDM is about 50-50 between government and commercial members, and evenly distributed among Hardware CM, Software CM and Data CM. Many of us have come to realize that the hardware, software, and data boundaries are very gray.

Is ACDM a profit or not-for-profit organization?

ACDM is incorporated as a 'not-for-profit' organization in the state of Utah. As such, ACDM must be careful how it supports organizations that have similar objectives but may also have specific commercial and financial interests. We maintain good working relationships and reciprocity agreements with several other professional organizations sharing common purposes and goals.

What is ACDM's business model?

As a not-for-profit organization, ACDM is only financially driven to be self-supporting. Its main purpose is to encourage, facilitate and enhance the communication, education, and collaboration of CM and DM professionals worldwide in the implementation and incorporation of the disciplines, practices, and procedures of CM and DM.

How can I serve?

ACDM has many positions that need volunteers. The committee for the annual conference needs assistance in all aspects of that conference - registration, speaking, facilities coordination, publicity work, and many others. ACDM's Executive Board can also found committees in support areas when and where they is appropriate interest for same. ACDM also features a Journal, which needs articles and volunteers to contribute the technical material for submittal. Contact us today to submit!
